Nigeria Becomes Partner in BRICS

Nigeria officially inducted as part state of BRICS bloc by Brazil in line with increased global economic collaboration. On Friday, the announcement marks Nigeria’s expanding role in directing the Global South and an increasingly assertive nation trying to reform global governance.

That being the current head of state of BRICS bloc in 2025, Brazil stressed how crucial is Nigeria to its own survival as a republic. Nigeria’s 2022 elections, with the biggest population on Africa and as one of strongest economies in relation to other, that was also closely related with interests of the initial BRICS+ members—Brazil, Russia, India, China & South Africa.

Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, Itamaraty, reads that “Today the inclusion of Nigeria as a bearer of hope for partnerships in emerging economies, but also reforming reforms that must be promoted in the world.

It reflects the bloc’s determination to deepen its reach by including nations working towards common objectives on economic growth and development and social equity with a fair decision-making process for all. This step further enhances Nigeria as the fulcrum of African and global economic issues.

BRICS, established 2009 by the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, recruited South Africa in 2011. Initially focused on promoting mutual investment and financial stability, the bloc has since broadened its scope to address issues such as security and global governance.
